X330Ascites and/or pleural effusion(s) due to malignancy

OHIP Laboratory Code — RADIATION ONCOLOGY · Schedule of Benefits

Treatment for ascites and/or pleural effusion(s) due to malignancy using non-sealed source radioisotopes. This benefit includes the associated treatment planning, dosage calculation, and preparation of materials. As noted on , appropriate visit and procedural benefits, such as paracentesis, may be claimed in addition to this service.

When to Use

  • Use X330 when administering non-sealed radioisotopes specifically for the palliative management of malignant ascites or pleural effusions.
  • Apply this code when the clinical intervention involves the planning, dosage calculation, and preparation of the radioisotope material for intracavitary delivery.

Common Pitfalls

  • Do not bill X330 for routine paracentesis or thoracentesis performed without the concurrent administration of a non-sealed radioisotope.
  • Avoid billing X330 in conjunction with thyroid-specific codes like X326 or X327, as those codes are restricted to thyroid-related administration within a three-month window.

Billing Tips

  • Always bill the associated procedural code for the paracentesis or thoracentesis (e.g., Z482 or Z483) as a separate line item, as X330 covers only the radioisotope treatment component.
