- Use this code for the application of a corrective cast to the foot for non-fracture conditions, such as post-operative immobilization or chronic musculoskeletal support, where no other surgical fee applies.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing Z199 within the first 14 days of a fracture or dislocation is a common audit trigger, as the cast application is considered included in the initial fracture management procedural fee.
- Attempting to bill Z199 alongside a surgical procedure code for the same site on the same day will result in a rejection, as casting is considered part of the surgical package.
