A963 – Travel Premium
OHIP General Listings Code — GENERAL PREAMBLE · Schedule of Benefits
A travel premium payable when a physician is required to travel from one location to another (the destination) to perform a special visit at their office on a Saturday, Sunday, or Holiday between 07:00 and 24:00.
When to Use
- Bill A963 when you travel to your office on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday between 7 AM and midnight to see a patient who requires a non-elective special visit.
- A963 is appropriate if you travel from your home or another location to your office on a weekend or holiday to perform a procedure that cannot wait for regular office hours.
- This code applies when a patient calls you urgently to your office on a Sunday afternoon, and you must travel there to provide care.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill A963 if you are already at your office when the patient arrives or if the patient's visit could have been scheduled during regular weekday hours.
- Avoid billing A963 if the travel is within the same hospital complex, long-term care facility, or adjacent buildings on the same campus, as this is not considered a separate trip.
- A963 is not payable with any 'H' prefix emergency department codes, even if you travel to the hospital on a weekend for a special visit.
Billing Tips
- You can bill A963 once per trip to your office, even if you see multiple patients during that weekend or holiday visit.
- Pair A963 with A998 ('First person seen') when applicable for the same special visit to capture both the travel and the initial patient encounter.
