E136 – Glaucoma Filtering Procedure Add-on for Intraocular Seton Implant
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — Sclera, Iris and Ciliary Body · Schedule of Benefits
This is an add-on fee payable to the surgeon when an intraocular implant of a seton is performed during a glaucoma filtering procedure. It is claimed in addition to the fee for the primary procedure, which can be either a glaucoma filtering procedure alone (E132) or a combined glaucoma filtering procedure and cataract extraction (E214).
When to Use
- Use E136 when performing a trabeculectomy or similar filtering procedure (E132) that includes the implantation of a glaucoma drainage device or seton.
- Use E136 when performing a combined cataract extraction and glaucoma filtering procedure (E214) that also requires the placement of an intraocular seton.
Common Pitfalls
- Claiming E136 without a valid primary procedure code (E132 or E214) will result in an automatic rejection.
- Billing E136 for procedures that do not involve an intraocular seton, such as standard trabeculectomy without a shunt, is an audit risk for inappropriate code usage.
Billing Tips
- Ensure E136 is submitted on the same claim as the primary procedure (E132 or E214) to ensure the add-on logic triggers correctly.
