OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

G001 is a laboratory test to measure the total amount of cholesterol in the blood. It is listed under the 'Miscellaneous Tests' subsection within 'LABORATORY MEDICINE'. This procedure is considered a simple office laboratory test and is eligible for delegation to a physician's employee under the conditions specified on pages and of the Schedule.

When to Use

  • Use G001 when performing a point-of-care total cholesterol test in the office for a patient not currently covered under a W010 monthly management fee.
  • Use G001 as a standalone diagnostic test when the clinical indication does not warrant a full lipid panel (G031) or when only a rapid total cholesterol screening is required.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing G001 on the same day or within the same month as W010 will result in an automatic rejection, as the test is considered inclusive of the monthly management fee.
  • Submitting G001 alongside a full lipid panel (G031) is redundant and will lead to payment denials for duplicate testing of the same analyte.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the laboratory requisition or office log clearly documents the delegation of this test to an employee, as per the requirements outlined in GP62 and GP63.
