G843 – Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This service code represents the administration of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. The '+' prefix indicates this is typically an add-on service. As per the note on page of the Schedule, if the sole reason for the visit is to provide the immunization, G700 should be added. This service is included as a component of the Monthly Management of a Nursing Home or Home for the Aged Patient fee (W010) and is not separately payable in that context, as detailed on page . As per , this procedure can be delegated to a physician's employee under the conditions outlined in the General Preamble (). The service is also eligible for payment when rendered on the same day as a counselling service ().
When to Use
- Use G843 when administering the HPV vaccine to a patient during an office visit where no other assessment or consultation code is billed.
- Use G843 in conjunction with G700 when the patient presents exclusively for the HPV immunization and no other billable service is provided.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G843 separately when the patient is already covered under the W010 monthly management fee for nursing home residents.
- Attempting to bill G700 alongside G843 when an assessment or consultation code is also claimed for the same patient on the same day.
Billing Tips
- Always append G700 to G843 if the immunization is the sole reason for the visit to capture the additional $5.60 premium.
