G847 – Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis (Tdap) - adult
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This service covers the administration of the adult Diphtheria, Tetanus, and acellular Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. If immunization is the sole reason for the visit, add-on code G700 should also be claimed. This service may be delegated to a physician's employee under specific conditions outlined in .
When to Use
- Use G847 for the administration of Tdap vaccine to patients 18 years of age or older.
- Use G847 in conjunction with a counselling code (e.g., K013) during the same visit, as this is a specific exception to the general rule prohibiting concurrent billing.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G700 alongside G847 when an assessment (e.g., A007) or consultation (e.g., A005) is also claimed, which will result in a rejection of the G700 premium.
- Attempting to bill G847 for pediatric patients, as this code is strictly restricted to adults; use the appropriate pediatric immunization codes instead.
Billing Tips
- Always append G700 to G847 when the patient presents solely for the immunization to maximize the visit value, provided no other assessment or consultation is billed.
