G846 – Pneumococcal Conjugate

Pneumococcal Conjugate immunization. This is an add-on service, indicated by the '+' prefix on , and is payable in addition to an assessment or other service. Per the note on , where the sole reason for the visit is to provide the immunization service, G700 must be added to the claim. The G700 service is only payable once per patient per day.
When to Use
- Use G846 when administering the Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine during a scheduled office visit where an assessment (e.g., A007) is also performed.
- Use G846 in combination with G700 when the patient presents exclusively for the immunization and no other assessment or counselling service is provided.
Common Pitfalls
- Failing to append G700 when the immunization is the sole reason for the visit, which will result in the claim being rejected or paid at an incorrect rate.
- Billing G846 multiple times for the same patient on the same day; the service is only payable once per encounter regardless of the number of doses administered.
Billing Tips
- Unlike most other procedures, G846 is explicitly payable alongside counselling codes, making it an exception to the general rule prohibiting concurrent billing of procedures and counselling.
