Residual urine measurement by ultrasound. Note: Residual urine measurement by ultrasound (G900) is not eligible for payment in addition to an ultrasound of the pelvis, intracavity ultrasound, G192 - G194, or G475 when cystometrogram and/or voiding pressure studies are rendered. Commentary: G475 is payable with G900 when uroflow studies are performed (flow rate with or without postural studies) with residual urine measurement by ultrasound.
When to Use
- Use G900 as a standalone procedure to measure post-void residual volume when no other pelvic or intracavity ultrasound is performed on the same day.
- Use G900 in conjunction with G475 specifically when performing a uroflow study (flow rate) to document post-void residual volume.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G900 alongside G192, G193, or G194 will result in an automatic rejection as these codes are mutually exclusive.
- Attempting to claim G900 with G475 when a cystometrogram or voiding pressure study is performed will trigger a rejection, as it is only permitted with uroflow studies.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your clinical notes explicitly specify that the G475 service was limited to a uroflow study to justify the concurrent billing of G900.
