L700
L700 – L700
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L700 for the simple incision and drainage of a superficial abscess, boil, or furuncle that does not require extensive surgical debridement.
- Select L700 when the procedure is performed as a minor office intervention, distinct from more complex procedures like the excision of a cyst (S062) or deep abscess drainage (S060).
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L700 in conjunction with a consultation or assessment code (A007/A001) on the same day is frequently rejected unless the procedure was not planned at the time of the initial assessment.
- Submitting L700 for procedures involving deep-seated infections or complex wound care often leads to audit scrutiny, as these cases should be billed under more appropriate surgical codes like S060.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the clinical note explicitly describes the incision and drainage process to justify the L700 fee, as simple examinations or dressing changes do not qualify for this code.
