N125
N125 – Posterior circulation, including vein of Galen
OHIP Otolaryngology Code — NEUROLOGICAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Intracranial aneurysm repair via an endovascular approach for aneurysms in the vertebrobasilar circulation, including those of the vein of Galen. This surgical procedure involves all necessary components including pre-operative evaluation, the procedure itself, and post-operative care. The fee for the surgeon is a set amount, while fees for the assistant and anaesthetist are calculated based on a system of basic units and time units.
When to Use
- Use N125 for the endovascular treatment of aneurysms located in the vertebrobasilar circulation, including the basilar artery, vertebral arteries, and posterior cerebral arteries.
- Use N125 when managing aneurysms associated with the vein of Galen malformations via endovascular techniques.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill diagnostic angiography or image guidance codes separately, as these are considered inclusive components of the N125 comprehensive fee.
- Avoid billing any other N-prefix surgical codes during the same operative session, as N125 is strictly restricted to be the sole N-prefix service provided.
- Do not attempt to bill E991 for liquid embolic agents or standard coil embolization, as it is specifically reserved for flow-diverter or intra-saccular device deployment.
Billing Tips
- Ensure that add-on codes E989, E990, and E991 are claimed only once per operative session, regardless of the number of vessels treated or devices deployed.
- Verify that your claim includes the appropriate after-hours premiums if the procedure is performed outside of standard operating hours, as these are eligible add-ons to the N125 base fee.
