E112
E112 – Pneumatic Retinopexy
OHIP Surgical Assists Code · Schedule of Benefits
Pneumatic Retinopexy
When to Use
- Use E112 when performing an office-based pneumatic retinopexy for a simple retinal detachment involving a single superior break.
- Select E112 as the primary procedure code when injecting an expansile gas bubble to tamponade a retinal break, provided no other vitrectomy or membrane peeling codes are billed.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E112 alongside E186 or E187 is a common rejection, as the intravitreal injection is considered an integral component of the pneumatic retinopexy procedure.
- Attempting to bill Z851 or E175 for a paracentesis performed to lower intraocular pressure during the same session will result in a claim rejection due to the same-day restriction.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the procedure is billed as a standalone event, as the inclusion of E148 or E142 on the same day will trigger an automatic audit or rejection of the E112 claim.
