When to Use
- Use E840 as an add-on when performing a formal closure of a septal perforation during a primary septoplasty (M012).
- Use E840 when repairing a perforation during a partial septorhinoplasty (M013) or full septorhinoplasty (M014), provided prior authorization is obtained.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E840 without the mandatory prior authorization from a Ministry of Health medical consultant when paired with M013 or M014 will result in automatic rejection.
- Attempting to bill E840 as a standalone procedure is invalid as it is strictly an add-on code requiring the base surgical procedure to be claimed on the same day.
