This service covers the unilateral or bilateral excision of the ovary(ies), performed in conjunction with a total omentectomy. Payment for this service includes either unilateral or bilateral ovarian excision as outlined in the notes on page of the Schedule.
When to Use
- Use S782 for a unilateral or bilateral oophorectomy specifically performed in conjunction with a total omentectomy.
- Choose S782 over S780 (excision of ovary) when the surgical plan and operative report confirm the removal of the omentum as a component of the procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S782 in addition to other ovarian excision codes like S780; the fee for S782 is inclusive of the ovarian excision regardless of whether it is unilateral or bilateral.
- Avoid billing S782 if the omentectomy is only partial; the code specifically requires a total omentectomy for eligibility.
