This service is for the electrocoagulation of a polyp or tumour of the rectum or sigmoid, where the base measures from 2 cm up to and including 5 cm. Payment for anaesthesia (Z755C) includes 6 base units plus time units. Payment for a surgical assistant (Z755B) includes 6 base units plus time units. Note: - Limited to a maximum of 2 procedures (any size or technique, such as Z753, Z754, Z784, Z785, Z755, Z761) per day. - For fulguration or excision of tumours through a colonoscope, refer to page . - This service is denoted by a '#' prefix, indicating that when performed in a hospital, the facility costs (premises, equipment, supplies, personnel) are funded through the hospital's budget ().
When to Use
- Use Z755 for the electrocoagulation of a rectal or sigmoid polyp or tumour specifically when the measured base is between 2 cm and 5 cm inclusive.
- Select Z755 when the procedure is performed via proctosigmoidoscopy or similar non-colonoscopic approach, as colonoscopic fulguration is billed under different codes found in section S19.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing more than two procedures per day from the restricted list (Z753, Z754, Z784, Z785, Z755, Z761) will trigger an automatic rejection.
- Incorrectly billing Z755 for tumours with a base smaller than 2 cm or larger than 5 cm, which fall outside the scope of this specific fee code.
Billing Tips
- If laser debulking is performed in conjunction with the electrocoagulation, ensure you add the E688 flat fee to your claim to capture the additional $69.80.
