E145 – Repositioning surgical of dislocated intraocular lens
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — OCULAR SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Repositioning surgical of dislocated intraocular lens. This service is for the surgical correction of a displaced intraocular lens implant within the eye.
When to Use
- Use E145 specifically for the surgical repositioning of a dislocated intraocular lens (IOL) that remains within the eye.
- Select E145 when the procedure involves adjusting the position of an existing implant, rather than a full exchange or removal which may fall under different surgical codes.
Common Pitfalls
- Attempting to bill E003C alongside E145 will result in an automatic rejection as they are mutually exclusive.
- Billing for local infiltration or topical anesthesia as a separate procedural fee is prohibited and will be rejected.
- Incorrectly applying time units or extra units for anesthesia services, as these are explicitly ineligible for E145C per the Schedule of Benefits.
Billing Tips
- Always follow the 5-unit anesthesia base for E145C, even if E023C generally suggests 6 units, as the specific listing for E145 takes precedence.
- Ensure that if you are claiming an age-based premium, it is applied only to the surgeon's fee (E145A) and excluded from any associated anesthesia fee calculations.
