E141
E141 – Dislocated lens extraction
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — OCULAR SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Excision of a dislocated crystalline lens. The fee for this surgical procedure includes the retrobulbar injection when administered by the surgeon. The add-on code E950A for insertion of an intraocular lens may be billed in conjunction with this service.
When to Use
- Use E141 for the surgical excision of a crystalline lens that has dislocated into the vitreous cavity or anterior chamber.
- Use E141 when the procedure involves the physical removal of the dislocated lens, distinct from standard phacoemulsification or cataract extraction codes.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill E003C for anaesthesia services in conjunction with E141, as this is explicitly restricted in the Schedule of Benefits.
- Do not attempt to bill separately for a retrobulbar injection, as the fee for E141 is inclusive of this service when performed by the surgeon.
- Failure to append E950A when an intraocular lens is inserted will result in under-billing, as the insertion fee is not bundled into the base E141 code.
Billing Tips
- Always pair E141 with E950A on the same claim if an intraocular lens is placed to ensure the additional $92.50 is captured.
- Ensure that if the procedure is performed after hours or on weekends, you apply the appropriate E409 or E410 premium, provided the case meets the non-elective criteria.
