This is an add-on code to be used with an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure. It covers the insertion of the first endobiliary prosthesis and/or pancreatic stent. According to the note on , this code is payable with Z561, Z558, or Z760. It is limited to a maximum of one per procedure.
When to Use
- Use this code when performing the initial placement of a biliary or pancreatic stent during an ERCP procedure billed under Z561, Z558, or Z760.
- Apply this code specifically for the first stent insertion; subsequent stents in the same session are not covered by this code.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E680 without an accompanying primary ERCP procedure code (Z561, Z558, or Z760) will result in an automatic rejection.
- Attempting to bill E680 multiple times for the same procedure is a common error, as it is strictly limited to one unit per session regardless of the number of stents placed.
