E775Cystoscopy with catheterization of the ureter and collection of the ureteral specimen, unilateral

OHIP Surgical Assists Code — UROGENITAL AND URINARY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

This procedure is performed in addition to a primary diagnostic cystoscopy (e.g., Z606, Z607). It involves the introduction of a catheter into one ureter for the purpose of collecting a ureteral specimen for diagnostic purposes. As a unilateral service, it pertains to one side only.

When to Use

  • Use E775 when you perform a diagnostic cystoscopy (e.g., Z606) and specifically catheterize one ureter to collect a urine specimen for cytology or culture.
  • Use E775 for unilateral ureteral catheterization; if you perform bilateral catheterization, you must bill E775 and E776 (the bilateral counterpart) according to the Schedule of Benefits.

Common Pitfalls

  • Do not bill E775 if the ureteral catheterization is part of a more comprehensive procedure like a retrograde pyelogram (E817), as the catheterization is considered integral to the imaging procedure.
  • Avoid billing E775 as a standalone code; it is an add-on procedure and requires a primary diagnostic cystoscopy code (e.g., Z606 or Z607) to be present on the same claim to avoid rejection.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the claim includes the diagnostic cystoscopy code as the primary service, followed by E775, to ensure the secondary procedure is processed correctly by the Ministry.
  • If performing this procedure on a patient under 16 years of age, remember to apply the appropriate age-based premium to the total surgical fee, as E775 is classified under the surgical sections of the Schedule.
