S762 – Radical trachelectomy - excluding node dissection
OHIP Urology Code — FEMALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This procedure involves the radical surgical removal of the uterine cervix, known as a trachelectomy. The fee for this service does not include the dissection of lymph nodes. It is eligible for surgeon (suffix A), assistant (suffix B), and anaesthetist (suffix C) services. - The assistant fee (S762B) is based on 8 basic units plus time units. - The anaesthetist fee (S762C) is based on 8 basic units plus time units. An additional premium (E862) may be claimed if the procedure is performed laparoscopically.
When to Use
- Use S762 for a radical trachelectomy performed for early-stage cervical cancer where fertility preservation is the primary goal.
- Use this code when the surgical approach is limited to the removal of the cervix and parametria, specifically excluding any lymph node dissection.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S762 in conjunction with S722, S760, S812, S813, S738, S741, S745, S747, S780, S781, or S782, as these are restricted and will trigger an automatic rejection.
- Ensure the claim does not include lymph node dissection fees; if nodes are dissected, S762 is the incorrect code, and you must bill the appropriate radical procedure that includes nodal assessment.
Billing Tips
- Always append the E862 premium to your claim if the procedure is performed laparoscopically or with laparoscopic assistance to capture the additional 25% fee increase.
- Verify that the surgical assistant (S762B) and anaesthetist (S762C) have correctly applied their respective after-hours or night premiums (E400B/E401B and E400C/E401C) based on the exact start time of the procedure.
