OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

This service is for a percutaneous nerve block of a cranial nerve not otherwise specified under the 'Nerve Blocks - Peripheral/Other Injections' subsection (). As a therapeutic procedure, it includes all applicable common elements as defined in the General Preamble (, ). This service is not eligible for delegation (, ). When a special visit premium is claimed with this service, an appropriate A-prefix assessment from the 'General Listings' must also be claimed.

When to Use

  • Use G227 for therapeutic percutaneous blocks of cranial nerves not specifically listed in the J81 subsection, such as the glossopharyngeal or accessory nerves.
  • Select G227 when performing a diagnostic or therapeutic block for cranial neuralgia that does not fall under the specific trigeminal nerve codes like G225 or G226.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing G227 alongside a primary surgical procedure on the same site will result in rejection under GP100/GP101, as the block is considered part of the procedure's global fee.
  • Failing to include an A-prefix assessment code (e.g., A007) when claiming a special visit premium with G227 will trigger an automatic rejection.

Billing Tips

  • If using alcohol or a sclerosing agent for the block, ensure you append the E958 add-on code to receive the 50% fee increase.
